Dr Sonali Gnanenthiran
Dr Sonali Gnanenthiran is a general cardiologist who graduated medicine from the University of New South Wales with First Class Honours and subsequently undertook a PhD with the University of Sydney. She completed cardiology training at Concord Hospital, and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and Cardiac Society Australia New Zealand.
She works as a Cardiologist at SAN, Concord and Canterbury Hospitals. She is a clinician-researcher, with experience spanning basic science to clinical trials, with particular interests in blood pressure, cardiovascular disease in ageing populations, blood clotting and cardiovascular disease prevention.
Her PhD was supported by a conjoint Heart Foundation/NHMRC scholarship, and later she was awarded the John Chalmers fellowship and Heart foundation fellowship. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at the George Institute for Global Health since 2020.
She has authored more than 41 peer review publications and attracted >$AUD 11 million in research funding. In recognition of her scientific contributions at a national and international level, she has been awarded the 2023 American Heart Association [AHA] Karl Link Early Investigator Award in Thrombosis; 2020 and 2022 AHA Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award; 2021 Scientific Medal of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia New Zealand, and 2018 Best Poster Presentation at the European Society of Cardiology Scientific Meeting.
